Notes from the artist:

I photographed this elk in Yellowstone park, he was perfect and the background was not. Later around home by Flathead Lake, the leaves had turned and the snow had begun to fall.  That was just the spark I needed to draw this etching.

The elk has settled down in the aspen grove, waiting for the last of the leaves to fall and the soft blanket of snow to cover all.
