"Stepping Stones" Notes from the Artist: |
|
The farm growing beside the county's main road running north and south around 1903. Henry Siderius and his wife Dolly bought the family homestead from his mother in 1942. It was a wonderful place to raise their four children. The farm served as a dairy and later a meat processing operation. The highway provided entertainment in those early years before television. Many evenings were whiled away, sitting on the rock wall and waving to passersby. The lightning storms, the sun's last rays coloring the mountaintops to the east, and the ever changing seasons were always there to be appreciated. The family has all grown and had children and grandchildren of their own. The house has been moved. The roadway that was always a part of the farm was widened and enveloped the family home along with the rock wall that it sat upon. It seems in some symbolic way, they became stepping stones into the future.
