Notes from the artist: For 50 years this schoolhouse served Lakeside Montana, dressed in traditional white with green shutters. Box socials, town meetings, Saturday night dances and other events were all held within its walls. In 1957, a new school was constructed for the west shore of Flathead Lake. The old one stood empty till 1964, when Jean Barry repaired, remodeled, and reconfigured it into an award winning-restaurant. Painted red with white trim, it was important in the little community, even though it was only open in the summer months. It was where you brought your guests for a fine meal, your children to learn etiquette, and held wedding receptions beside the lake. The restaurant closed in the late eighties, and Jean's son decided to make the old schoolhouse his home. After several instances when would-be diners walked into his living room, Micheal painted it white with green trim. It remained that way until 2003, when enough time had passed where wouldn't be mistaken for the Red Schoolhouse Dining Room. Now, red once again, the school brightens its little corner by Flathead Lake.
