Notes from the artist: In 1900, John Woodworth built a mansion for Alice, his new wife in. It was beautifully situated on a hill overlooking the Madison River and Ennis Lake. For the reasonable cost of $4,000, it had all modern conveniences including maid's quarters over the kitchen, a butler's pantry, and outbuildings including a coal shed and ice house. The current owners are Gayle and Danette Clark, John Woodworth's great-great niece. Along with the house, they inherited nearly a century's worth of carved oak furniture, antique organ, working Victrola with records, basement full of old newspapers and personal documents. The Clarks and their children have done a wonderful job of restoring the old house. When you see the charming house on the hill, it is still surrounded by the remains of the farm. There are sheds, barns and a lot of equipment...one piece of which is this old manure spreader.
