As a child living in the dry side of Washington, the green of the forest and the vast waters of Flathead Lake were unbelievable. As a young married, whenever our family traveled through the valley, we would stop at this spot and picnic. When I turned 50, my lifelong dream became a reality and we moved to Montana.
Those of us who aren't lucky enough to be native Montanans, were all lured here by the magnificent call of this valley. We now get up every morning to cherish the sight of the lake, never the same from one day to the next. With the seasons, with the light, it is always magnificent. I say to myself, "what did I ever do to deserve this?" So here is the view from the north end of Flathead Lake in the winter, with the ice starting to cover Somers Bay.
