Notes from the Artist:
The Philipsburg Valley is on the scenic Pintlers highway from Anaconda
to Drummond, Montana. The town of Philipsburg was a center of mining
activity in the late 1880’s. Many who came for the gold in
the hills, found their gold in the valley instead…not enough
to make them rich, but just enough to eke out a living
Note the “beaver slide” used to pile up the haystacks.
They were invented in the Wisdom Valley, on the other side of the
far range of mountains, where the Continental Divide winds its way
through the Rocky Mountains. Barbara Coppock
