Notes from the Artist:
In central Montana, the coming of the railroads connected the vast spaces to the rest of the country. As the rolling stock wore out, the cars were abandoned along the tracks. Creative farmers would never let such a well constructed shed go to waste. Somehow, they would drag them home to become storage, barns, or whatever.
This passenger car now has new life as shelter for the horses. In the background are the Pryor Mountains, named for Nathaniel Pryor, a member of the Lewis & Clark Expedition. The farmstead is deserted, speaking of a prior life in another time. This typical landscape is located just west of Laurel, Montana
